because of the series of tests that were scheduled as part of the Mid-Semester Exam at the College. It is practically tiring to study and also concentrate on the creative side of life too. I don’t know how I am going to go about it. I made a lot of resolutions this new year: go jogging around Kukkarahalli Lake every morning (so as to reduce a few inches), complete my violin course, try to practice singing (as I don’t like to sing) and also to play cricket with friends (sorry folks! I was a cricket champion at school). But I now know the weight of academia. It is hefty. It is boring. It is idiotic. I watched an inspirational video on how education has to be improved at the fundamental level. It was really good. The speaker, Sir Ken Robinson, spoke of intelligence as having 3 distinct qualities: Diversity, Distinctiveness and being interactive. He also talks about how the current educational system is. I also saw another video which talked about reality being an illusion. Though Bishop Berkeley had given substantial evidence of it in the 17th Century (Try google!), here is a modern approach to the same concept:
One of the best views on whether reality exists was given by the famous philosopher Immanuel Kant in his famous work “Critique of Pure Reason” in 1781. He calls the questions antinomies (contradictions) as there are arguments that support both sides. His argument for the thesis was that if the universe were not to have a beginning, an infinite time would exist before any event, which was absurd to him. The argument for the antithesis was that if the universe had a beginning, there would be an infinite period of time before it, so why should the universe begin at any particular time? But, both these arguments are essentially same. They are based on the fact that time existed infinitely. Time has no meaning before the birth of the universe. Oh my, I have gone into astrophysics! I shall stop here and say no more of it. I brought in the topic of universe’s existence because it is the whole crux of reality.
I think I collected decent material for this post. But I am not satisfied. I think the more I write, the better I become. Hoping to see some criticism in the comments, bye!
